Depression Army

Marching Out of the Dark

Depression Army is a growing and dynamic international movement that aims to end the stigmatism surrounding mental illness and to serve as a community of support for those undergoing one.

Devan

Devan has battled OCD, anxiety, and depression for as long as she can remember. She loves writing because she can give her pain a voice and as Tim O'Brien says, "stories can save us." Even when she's writing fiction, she feels the characters contain a part of her soul, which is very cathartic for her. Her other passion is figure skating which she feels is an excellent metaphor for mental illness and life in general. In skating, she can write her story on the ice. Sometimes she falls down, but she picks herself back up and keeps going. She is thankful to organizations such as TWLOHA, Attitudes In Reverse, the Depression Army, and Jared Padalecki's Always Keep Fighting campaign for helping to erase the stigma of mental illness. She hopes she can lend her voice as well, let people know they aren't alone, and most importantly that they matter.
